Star Wars Episode 7 The Force Awakens Discussion (Spoliers!!!!)

After watching the new Star Wars I was not sure what to think. I have seen all 6 previous films and loved them all including the prequels even though nothing is as good as the original trilogy. This new film I liked but it really left me questioning a lot of the creative decisions and hopefully these problems will be addressed in episodes 8 and 9.

First I will mention the things I loved about the movie. All the new characters are great especially Rey and Finn. They really brought a lot to the movie. The movie was also very well acted which was something that the prequels have been criticized about. The only thing I had a problem with in in the first half of the movie was the lack of explanation for who the battling factions were and why they were battling. Why is the First Order evil? Who is this new republic they basically destroyed as soon as they were mention. Is the resistance then same as the rebellion from the original trilogy?

In spite of this I thought the first half of the movie was amazing and I was all in. Then they brought up that they had to destroy what is essentially ANOTHER Death Star. The writers really couldn't come up with something new at this point. also it's only weekness just so happens to be almost exactly the same as the original Death Star. You think someone in the First Order would have taken note of that in the planing of a third Death Star.

Toward the end of the movie is where I had the most issues. How exactly does Rey almost instantly become a Jedi Master with no training. She can do the Jedi mind trick without being taught to do so or having ever seen someone do so. She uses the force to pull Luke's light saber out of the snow to battle Kylo Ren. This took Luke 3 years to do after having some training from Obi Wan. Also how is she not only on Kylo's level during their battle but she beats him. What? Kylo was trained by both Luke and Snoke. I know Kylo had an injury and they showed Rey having some skills with a staff but this does not add up. Hopfully they address this with some kind of explanation in episode 8.

My last big issue was the lack of Luke in the film. I was really hoping he would have at least one moment to be a bad ass and save the day. This hurt the movie because I spent most of the movie waiting for Luke to return for a big moment but he does not appear until the last 30 seconds. I wish they had explained further what happened to everyone Luke was training as well. I would have also liked some explanation of how/why Kylo turned to the dark side and who are the Knights of Ren. Also having Luke not come back until the last moments of the film robbed the viewers of seeing him have another scence with Han Solo since he was killed. In spite of that fact Han Solo's death was one of the most powerful moments of the film.

I defiantly liked this movie but all of these issues may have stopped me and probably some others from loving it. Hopefully Episode 8 answers a lot of these questions which I believe would make this an even better movie in retrospect.

Oblivion Review

Oblivion is a movie I have been waiting a while for. I have been hoping for Tom Cruise to make another great sci fi film ever since Minority Report, which was amazing. Oblivion was good but a bit of let down. Cruise plays Jack who is a survivor from an alien war that left earth destroyed. His mission is to keep earth secure with the help of his partner Vicca. Jack flies around fixing drones that are used for security on either while Vicca gives him support from their communications station in the sky. This is how the movie starts off and I cannot go into too much more detail without spoiling any of the many twists in the movie.
I liked this movie but it was flawed and felt like a bit of a missed opportunity. I enjoyed the premise and the relationship between Jack, Vicca and a third female character who comes in later (who I won’t talk about because of spoilers). The movie felt very long though. The running time was pretty average but it just felt like a lot was stretched out more then it needed to be. They defiantly could have gotten to the conclusion much faster. Another gripe I had with the movie was the odd turn the movie takes when Jack passes through the radiation zone and discovers another person doing the same job he does(yet again I wont mention because of spoilers). I enjoyed all the other twists but this one through the movie off for me a bit.

UFC on Fuel: post fight

Sorry about this one i Completly forgot this fight was even happing so soon. I would have given a prediction but I ended up having to watch it after the fact. Weidman was extremly impressive in his win over Munzo. He was great everywhere from the ground to the feet. Complete domination. He might actually stand a chance at beating anderson Silva ( I know i just said last week there was no one for him to fight at middleweight). I believe after Silva retires this guy will be taking over the divison.

Ted Review

My Movie Rating Method: I will be using a different ranking system then anyone else. There are 4 possible ranks I will give a movie starting with the lowest. SKIP IT(do not see the movie it is terrible) FREE MOVIE TUESDAY(it was average not to bad not to great or worth seeing but prolly don't go pay to see it), MUST SEE (it was great movie worth paying for), and lastly LEGENDARY(this is a must see movie, see it as soon as possible and if offered in imax/3d see that version becasue it is worth the money.
Positive: comedies are often hard to go by from other people's reviews because it is all about if you think it is funny. For me I thought for the most part it was in fact pretty funny.

Negative: There were some parts when the movie got too cartoony and the ending draged on a little to much.

UFC 148 Results

UFC 148 did not disappoint. Silva had a tough first round with Sonnen but was able to stop him quite easily in the second cementing his place as the best fighter in the world. I do not want to hear anymore talk of him fighting at middleweight as far as I am concerned his work is done there. Either he moves up in weight or he fights GSP in my mind. Tito Ortiz vs. Forrest Griffin stole the show though. They had another close and very exciting fight which earned them both fight of the night. Griffin edged out the decision but was a bit unclassy as he tried to walk out of the arena before the results were given and interviewed Ortiz after the fight by taking the mic away from Joe Rogen earning him a ton of boos.  I was let down by Cote though he should have been able to be Le especially at the end of the fight when he was gassed but Cote just was not aggressive enough. My official predictions are now at 7-2.

UFC 148 Tonight!

Don't miss the biggest fight of the year tonight on pay per view tonight at 10pm (ET). There hasn't been a fight this big in a long time (probably since UFC 100). If Sonnen wins he puts him self up there as one of the greatest fighters in the world and proves the first fight wasn't a fluke. If Silva wins his work at middlewieght is done and he proves his is the best pound for pound fighter in the world once and for all. He needs to either retire after a win here or move up to 205/have a catch weight fight with GSP. Enjoy the fights!
